On January 21, 2018 Robert H. Horn, 88, of Evergreen Woods in North Branford and a long-time resident of Madison, CT passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT after a relatively short illness with his wife and children at his side. Born in Woodhaven, NY, he was the only child of the late George and Mildred Werger Horn. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Sara (Sally) McCain Horn and their four children and seven grandchildren: Susan (Joseph) Blumenkrantz, Cynthia (Paul) Simek, Douglas Robert (Theresa) Horn, and Betsy (Sean) McGahey. Grandchildren: Sean and Michelle Blumenkrantz; Robert, Brittany and Peter Horn; and Patrick and Shawn DeMartino. Bob graduated with a BA from Union College in 1951 and with an MS from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1959. He also graduated from Naval OCS in 1953 and was assigned to NavComSta in Pearl Harbor, HI where he served until 1956 when he retired as a Lieutenant. After his military service he returned to Alcoa. He also held positions at Johnson & Johnson and Ciba-Geigy before becoming Corporate Director of Industrial Engineering at Chesebrough Ponds, until his retirement in 1987. In retirement he traveled overseas (with Sally) for the International Executive Services Corps as a volunteer helping small growing companies in developing countries. For many years while spending winters in Fort Myers, FL he volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, building pre-fab walls for Habitat houses. In his final years he enjoyed golf and tennis in Madison and Fort Myers and watching his beloved children and grandchildren grow and achieve happiness and success. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s name to either First Congregational Church, 26 Meetinghouse Lane, Madison, CT 06443 or to Connecticut Hospice at 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

Our hearts are saddened by the loss of our dear friend Bob. Our friendship began almost 70 years ago, when we were roommates in college and has continued these many years. Bob, Sally, my wife Barbara and I have spent many happy times together. We loved Bob and will miss him very much. Our thoughts are with Sally and her family and we send love to all.

Bob and Sally would attend every annual meeting at Madison CC--few other did--and Bob would always offer a thoughtful comment about the Club. As a former member of the Board of Directors, I know that Board Members appreciated their input and participation. Wonderful man.
