August 2, 1962 – October 15, 2025
Stephen John Nichols, 63, a lifelong resident of Madison, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2025.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, to the late Charles David Nichols and Ruth Helen (French) Nichols, Steve grew up surrounded by family and good friends and had an intense love for learning. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of New Haven in 1986. That same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan (Iversen) Nichols, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned nearly four decades.
Steve built a distinguished career as an electrical engineer, working mostly for defense companies for over 38 years. His intelligence, work ethic, and integrity earned him the respect of both colleagues and friends.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve was known for his sharp wit, dry sense of humor, and genuine kindness. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he was a proud member of the Meriden Motorcycle Club since 1999, becoming club president in 2006. Later, he joined the British Iron Association with his brothers, where he could further share in their common passion for motorcycles. He was also a voracious reader with a deep fascination for history and a constant thirst for knowledge.
Above all, Steve was a family man—hardworking, honest, and always ready to lend a hand to others. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his cherished daughters, Monica and Lindsay; his brothers, Richard Nichols (Kathleen) and David Nichols (Amy); and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him profoundly. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his twin sisters, Linda (Nichols) Walker and Sharon (Nichols) DeVeau.
Calling hours will be held at Swan Funeral Home in Madison, Connecticut, on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 PM, with words of remembrance beginning at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to the John J. Nerden RTC Camp in Meriden, Connecticut.
