

Born on May 27, 1937, in Madison, Connecticut, Sylvia spent most of her life in the town she loved, surrounded by family, lifelong friends, and the community that meant so much to her.
A dedicated businesswoman, Sylvia owned and operated two beloved clothing stores in downtown Madison—The General Store and The Yellow Boutique. Through her work in retail, she built lasting relationships with customers and friends while contributing to the heart of her hometown.
Sylvia found great joy in painting, gardening, traveling, and spending time at the beach—or anywhere she could soak up the sunshine. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family. She treasured every opportunity to gather with her loved ones and created countless memories that will be cherished for generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Susan Lupone Pallenberg and Emil Pallenberg, and by her beloved husband of 65 years, Harold D. Phillips.
Sylvia is lovingly survived by her three children: Stephen Phillips of Madison, Connecticut, and Karen Buck of Madison, Connecticut, with whom she made her home, and Pamela Edwards of Marshville, North Carolina. She also leaves behind her two grandsons, who were the light of her life, Jonathan Buck (Martine) and Justin Buck (Natalie), as well as her granddaughter, Jessica Edwards. Sylvia especially cherished the time she spent with her great-grandsons, Jonathan Buck Jr. ("Junior"), who lovingly called her "GiGi," and her youngest great-grandson, Jacob Buck.
She is also survived by her brother, Carvin (Emil) Pallenberg and his wife, Renee, of Madison, Connecticut, along with many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom will miss her deeply.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU Cardiac Team at Yale New Haven Hospital for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided to Sylvia during her final days.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sylvia's life at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, Connecticut, on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at West Cemetery in Madison, Connecticut, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Sylvia will be remembered for her warm heart, creative spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering devotion to her family. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, found joy in life's simple pleasures, and loved nothing more than being surrounded by those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the love she shared, and the memories that will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
