Dear Dave, family and friends my deepest sympathy to all of you. I have known Carla since the early 90's when we showed in obedience, UKC, breed when Carla showed Linda's Belgians and agility. Carla was a wonderful trainer and competitor.

Dear Dave and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I met Carla through AKC Agility. I will always remember her smile and kindness towards others. I am so thankful that she touched my life and I will treasure those moments! Prayers to you and your family.

I met Carla in 1995 because I saw her Golden Raider's photo in the GRCA Yearbook and I was smitten with his expression and wanted to find out more - I'm originally from Indiana so when I visited my parents, I contacted Carla to see if she would be interested in breeding Raider and I drove from near Indianapolis up to Detroit (forgot how far it was!) just to meet Raider.  Well, not only did I get to meet Raider, I got to meet Carla.  I couldn't believe how nice and welcoming she was - she even invited me to attend an obedience class (in NJ at that time I'd been involved in obedience for over 5 years and had never had anyone actually welcome me to anything) - in class she taught me a neat release move where I spin my dog to the left and celebrate! I still use that to this day and in class this week when I released my dog Clue in that manner I remembered Carla and tears flowed.  I again drove to MI from NJ two years later and bred my Golden Levee to Raider - my wonderful Goldens Blue and now Melt are from Raider's gene pool.  I've since met Carla at several GRCA National Specialtys - the last being this year in Ohio where I got to thank her for my wonderful Golden Retriever Melt (Raider's grandson), met Walker, and experienced firsthand the special bond between Carla and her agility friends.  I know how special Carla is by just meeting her less than a dozen times and cannot imagine the loss you all have experienced.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have memories of all of us playing together as children.I think of those days and I smile.

Dear Edie, Al, Roxianne, Justine, and Dave:
We are so sorry about your loss of such a wonderful daughter, sister and wife.  We were lucky to know Carla when she was a young girl and watched her grow into such a wonderful woman.  She was such a sweet person with such a giving smile and attitude.  Her courage was so strong as she continued her battle.  She will be terribly missed by all that knew her.  Our hearts go out to you all.

It will be difficult to think of all of you minus Carla.  She was a great girl from my memory and it seems she seemed to complete all of you as if you were each an appendage of the other forming a circle of love and respect that most sisters do not enjoy. Dave, my heart goes out to you at this time.  You two were the perfect picture of a happy loving couple. Anyone would be so lucky to have that in their lives. I, too, am lucky that I had Carla in my life for 30+ years as my best friend, traveling buddy, co-breeder on some great litters, training buddies, Disneyland partner in crime and she was just always there to lend a hand or give me a shoulder to lean on.  I will cherish our friendship forever and know that I will never have that kind of friend again. She was a one in a million, with a heart of GOLD, like her dogs. My memories of Carla will keep the hole in my heart full.

Spent a lot of the day thinking about the gift of people who can "name you." We were members of St. Columban's Roman Catholic Community for nearly thirty years because naming and knowing each other was part of our who we were. Today, when I looked around at the obedience trial we were at, I thought about how lucky each of us is when we have people in our life who can name us, who rejoice in our presence, who miss us when we are absent, and who mourn our passing when we finally leave. We name you Carla Retell Haupt, we honor your life and the impact you had on so many people, we mourn your passing, and we thank you for everything you taught us about kindness and courage. We will miss you.

Carla was a valued member of our agility family. She will be missed.

Although I don't know your part of the family much, it seems Carla was a beautiful person both inside and out.  May she rest in peace, and may you all find peace knowing she is now healed!

The agility community lost one of its brightest lights in Carla.  She embodied the spirit of dog sports, always smiling and loving every run she had with her dog!  Her spirit, friendship and comraderie will sorely be missed!  Our deepest condolences to those closest to her.

Dave and family, and special friends, I know there are no words right now that can take away the pain of losing Carla so young.
