Charles O'Brien, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and joy.
Charles was deeply devoted to his family, placing them above all else. He was married for 62 beautiful years to the love of his life, Elizabeth O'Brien. Together, they created a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love. He was a proud and loving father to Beth McHale (Matt McHale) and Kevin O'Brien (Chelsea O'Brien Berg), and a doting grandfather to Ant McHale, Dave McHale, Kendall O'Brien, Delaney O'Brien, and Aiden O'Brien, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Charles dedicated 38 years to the Detroit Windsor Tunnel, taking great pride in his long and successful career. His professional life was marked by hard work, integrity, and commitment. An active member of the Detroit Rotary Club, Charles enjoyed many years bowling alongside his fellow Rotarians and fostering friendships that endured throughout his life.
A true enthusiast of life's many pleasures, Charles enjoyed camping, golfing, sailing, and traveling. His adventures were abundant, shared generously with family and friends, creating cherished stories that will be retold for generations.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved siblings Kenneth O'Brien, Donna Bates, Daniel O'Brien and is survived by his dear sister, Ethel Parkes of Bloomfield. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known his warm heart and gentle spirit.
A life well-lived, Charles O'Brien leaves behind memories of laughter, kindness, and unconditional love. He will forever remain in our hearts.
The family will greet guests from 11:00am until 2:00pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Rd., Madison Heights, Michigan. A Celebration of Chuck's Life and Legacy will be held at 1:00pm where he will be remembered with songs, stories, and laughter. Private interment at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Michigan at a later date.
