Born on October 17, 1927 in Bostwick, Nebraska, Charlotte dedicated her life to nurturing others—whether in the classroom, her garden, or her home. She spent years as a home economics teacher, where she guided generations of students not only in practical skills but in the values of patience, kindness, and self-reliance. Her classroom and home were always open to those eager to learn, and many recall her gentle encouragement and thoughtful lessons.
Outside of the classroom, Charlotte found great joy in gardening. Her flower beds were always in bloom and carefully tended, and her love for the earth evident in every corner of her yard. She believed that growing something beautiful was one of life’s simplest and purest pleasures. She received recognition from the City of Warren for many years on her beautiful garden. Charlotte also gave freely of her time, volunteering in hospital gift shops and in her duties as President of the Women's Auxiliary. She was a proud member of Southfield Reformed Presbyterian Church for 68 years and took great pride in her care of the beautiful wood floor of the sanctuary.
She was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family, survived by her children; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Nothing made her smile more than a house full of laughter, a well-kept garden, and little ones playing underfoot.
Charlotte will be remembered for her quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep love of home and family. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she planted, and the many lives she touched.
