

Garry Thompson was born on September 8, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late James and Lillian Thompson. He peacefully departed this life surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unforgettable style.
Garry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Detroit. Throughout his life, he held a variety of occupations, each reflecting his dedication, skill, and love for serving others. He worked as an optician and manager for Henry Ford Optimeyes and was gifted with many talents. A skilled tailor with exceptional sewing abilities. Garry took pride in helping others look and feel their best.
A devoted member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Garry valued brotherhood, service, and lifelong friendships. He was an avid football fan and especially loved cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.
Known affectionately as "Gorgeous Garry," he was a man who believed in looking good and smelling good. Whether dressed in a sharp suit or offering fashion advice, Garry’s impeccable style, confidence, and sense of humor left an impression on everyone he met.
More importantly, Garry was a selfless and compassionate man who consistently placed the needs of others above his own. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and found joy in giving to those in need. Family was at the center of his life, and he treasured the moments spent with those he loved. He took immense pride in being a grandfather and embraced the role with love, devotion, and joy. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every opportunity to share in their lives.
Garry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James, and Lillian Thompson, his brothers, James Thompson, and Barry Thompson.
Garry leaves to cherish his memory his best friend and partner for life, Gale; his beautiful daughter, LaTonia; and his beloved grandchildren, Jahavier, Kyle, and Ava, who brought endless joy and pride to his life. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, family members, fraternity brothers, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
Though he will be deeply missed, Garry’s legacy of compassion, family devotion, brotherhood, and impeccable style will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on June 22, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with an Omega Service at 6:00 PM at Edward Swanson and Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Rd., Madison Heights, MI 48071.
