Family man, loyal leader, dog lover, friend. When it comes to the life of the late Gerald E. Crossley, there isn’t any individual title that adequately sums it up. What those close to him say universally, however, is that he was one of a kind.
Jerry passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022, from complications due to a cancer battle. He and his loving wife, Judith, were just six months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Cherished father of Ronald (Cookie), Brian (Christine), Kristin (Jason) and Soula (Kevin). Loving grandfather of Joshua, Cameron, Madison, Emersyn, Zoey, Piper, Amanda (Mark), Matthew (Karley), Nathan, Dylan, Sarah, Ryan and Allison. Great-grandfather of Morgan, Wyatt and uncle to Tim, Robin and Dayle (Doug). Great-uncle to Joseph, Eve, Beckett and Walker. Jerry’s family was his biggest source of pride and he made sure they knew it. He was preceded in death by his parents Pauline and Eugene, and by his brother Richard Tanner.
Serving his country as a United States Marine and then as a police officer for 29 years, Jerry retired as Chief of Police in Madison Heights. As Chief, one of his many achievements was the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art police station.
In later years, Jerry’s family would often hear about what an impact and influence he had on others’ lives.
Jerry was always up for a prank or story to keep everyone laughing, especially his wife. His funny sayings were often then repeated by whoever heard them. Jerry’s love, strength, wisdom & humor live on in his family.
Military honors for Jerry will take place on Tuesday December 6, 2022,10:30 a.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Road. Holly, MI. 48442.
