Harriet May Hardy, aged 98, of Warren, MI, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. She was born on May 9, 1927, in Owosso, MI. Harriet grew up on a dairy farm, taking care of the cows and driving the tractor. She graduated from Ovid High School in 1946 and afterwards worked at Universal Electric on the assembly line for 21 years until getting married on April 8, 1967, to Lare Hardy. After moving to Madison Heights, she filled her time working for Madison Heights city elections and as a proctor for professional testing for many years.
Harriet was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hazel Park for over 50 years. While there, she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years and was the organist for 20+ years. She was also actively involved with Church Women United and the Hazel Park United Methodist Women for decades, along with being the President of HPUMW for several years.
While she lived at Madison Senior Tower, she volunteered working in the kitchen, the convenience store, and led the choir. In 2016, she was named the National Volunteer of the Year for National Church Residences.
Harriet is survived by her daughter, Renee Dusseau, and son Aaron (Shannon) Hardy, grandchildren Adam (Renee) Hardy, Rebecca Steinmann, and Emma Hardy, and great-grandsons Larry and Aron Hardy, along with many nieces and nephews. Harriet is predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Helen Dennison, husband Lare Hardy, son-in-law Michael Dusseau, siblings Warren (Joan) Dennison, Kathryn (Harold) Michelson, and Thelma (Raymond) Jacobs.
A visitation for Harriet will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071, followed by a funeral service from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Harriet will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery, 143 S. Sherman Rd., Owosso, MI, 48867.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Hazel Park to honor Harriet Hardy's legacy.
