Katherine Louise Swanson, age 91, passed away on May 15, 2020, in Troy, Michigan. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 11, 1928, to her proud parents Ernest and Myrtle Johnson. Katherine is the beloved wife of the late Carl E. Swanson. She is the loving mother to the late Dennis (Jo Ann) Swanson, John Swanson, William (Janet) Swanson, Katherine (Charles) Hemry, Barry (Beverly) Swanson, and Mark Swanson. She was a cherished grandmother, great grandmother and a great great grandmother to many Children. Katherine is the dear sister of Thelma (the late Tom) Teeple, the late William (the late Angelle) Johnson, the late James Johnson, Shirley (the late Ted) Misiak, Margaret (the late William) Smith, the late Bonnie (the late Ronnie) Johnson, and Richard (Robin) Johnson. Katherine grew up in Warren, Michigan with her parents and siblings. She attended Lincoln High School for a time, and met her husband Carl in the school's band. Katherine graduated from Busch (now Centerline) High School in 1945, and married Carl later that year. Katherine and Carl lived most of their life in Warren where she worked for 20 years as a food server and cashier for the Greyhound Corporations' Prophet Food Company in the Warren GM location. She was also heavily involved in the community, serving as a den mother for her son's boy scout troop and volunteering with the Friends of Library's Adult Education program teaching reading and writing. Upon retirement, Katherine and Carl moved to Prescott, Michigan. It was here she joined the American Legion, and remained a member for 29 years. Katherine was an avid quilter, she spent much of her time with Out to Lunch Bunch, a quilting group in the Rifle River area. She also made quilts for veterans through the American Legion. Katherine will be missed by many family members and friends, and truly was the greatest grandmother, mother, and sister ever.
