Beloved wife of the late James Owen Richards (January 28, 2014). Loving mother of Rick ("Owen") Richards and his wife Julie Smith, Rochelle Karl and her husband Kevin. Loving grandmother of Deborah Richards and her husband Dr. James (“Ted”) Matherly, Dr. Allison Richards and her husband Dr. Mateusz (“Matt”) Ciejka, Kelley Ellis and her husband Danny, Scott Karl and his wife Louissa Breitenfeld. Loving great grandmother of Olivia, Mackenzie, James and Leona.
Lila was a 60-year resident of Madison Heights, Michigan. She was an active member of the political, social and charitable community of the City of Madison Heights, being a lifetime member of the Madison Heights Women's Club, a lifetime member of the Community Roundtable, a member of the Historical Commission, an organizer of the annual Boards and Commissions Dinner, and a volunteer for the City’s nature center. She worked on many City mayoral and council campaigns and helped organize many City related fund raising events.
Lila was also active in other social clubs, was a movie enthusiast and an avid card player. She greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including dinners and other gatherings, but her greatest love was for her family, for whom she carried immense pride. She followed every accomplishment and major event of every family member. She established a family legacy in Lakeville, Massachusetts where she had a family summer home for the past 60 years on Long Pond and made it the family destination. This is where her heart was, and where she will rest.
Visitation for Lila will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday May 6, 2023 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM with funeral services on Sunday May 7, 2023 at 12:00 PM, at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Road Madison Heights, Michigan 48071. A memorial luncheon at the Mon Jin Lau Restaurant, 1515 E. Maple Road, Troy, Michigan 48083 will immediately follow the funeral services on Sunday.
