Born the fourth child of John and Helen Stevenson, devoted wife to the late Alvin, beloved mother to Heather (the late Christopher) and Alan, and grandmother to Hilary (Jean-Michel) and Nicholas, her family and friends were able to celebrate her 100th birthday on September 1, 2023. Throughout those 100 years on this earth, Margaret left a dynamic, century-long impression on many people's lives. In her early 20s, she served four years in the British Women's Air Force, packing parachutes during WWII. She left her native Scotland after the war ended and made her way across the Atlantic to Canada, where she met a young US Army soldier in Windsor, ON. Margaret and Al were married for 68 years before his passing in 2018.
Margaret filled her 100 years by helping and serving others, and with her profound passion for bowling and Scottish country dancing. She danced all the way up until she was 91! She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at church events, and could often be found in the kitchen at Masonic events making pasties.
The family feels extremely blessed to have had the chance to love her for so long. She will be deeply missed by the many people she touched, but our hearts are soothed knowing she is once again reunited with her dear Al.
A viewing will be held, on Friday, February 23rd from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, located at 30351 Dequindre Rd, Madison Heights, MI 48071. The funeral will be held there on Saturday, February 24 at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Roseland Park Cemetery.
