

Marilyn passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born on August 31, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Lyle and Frances Brown, Marilyn was one of two daughters and had a close relationship with her beloved sister, Carol.
Marilyn earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Wayne State University in 1958, marking the start of her passion for teaching. Throughout her career, she nurtured young minds in elementary schools in Detroit and Warren, where her kindness and dedication made lasting impacts on countless students and colleagues.
In the summers, Marilyn found joy and peace at her cottage in Northern Michigan, a place where she created treasured memories with many family and friends, surrounded by nature, laughter, and hummingbirds!
Marilyn was the devoted wife of 50 years to the late Roger McQueen, and the loving mother of Geoffrey (Sandy) McQueen and Stephen (Lisa) McQueen. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to eight grandsons, Luke, Evan, Griffin, Conner, Collin, Caden, Casey, and Corey, each of whom brought her endless pride and happiness. Marilyn also cherished lifelong friendships, particularly with her dear friends from Wayne State University, with whom she shared decades of laughter, support, and many adventures.
Marilyn took great pride in hearing about her family’s adventures, whether they were everyday moments or significant milestones. She stayed actively involved in the lives of her children and eight grandsons, following their sports schedules, school achievements, new jobs, and travel stories with pride and enthusiasm. Her thoughtfulness and genuine interest in everyone she knew made her visits, phone calls, and her love of frequent Hallmark card greetings feel like special occasions!
Her life was defined by grace, generosity, and an enduring belief in God, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A visitation for Marilyn will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071.
An in-state will occur Friday, June 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, 29860 Dequindre Rd, Warren, MI 48092.
Marilyn will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
