
Mary was born on October 31, 1946 in Detroit to Edward and Helen Wist. She married Paul Agnew on June 14, 1969 in Warren, Michigan.
Mary dedicated many years of her career as a medical transcriptionist, where her professionalism, attention to detail, and strong work ethic earned the respect of those who knew and worked with her. Following her retirement, she devoted her time to the people and activities she loved most.
Nothing brought Mary greater joy than her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, creating lasting memories through holidays, celebrations, and everyday moments. Her love, encouragement, and gentle presence will remain in their hearts forever.
Mary also had a love for the outdoors and adventure. She enjoyed camping, family vacations, and the simple pleasure of spending time with those she loved. One of the highlights of her life was a memorable anniversary trip to Alaska, a journey she treasured and often recalled with great fondness.
Mary will be remembered for her caring heart, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. Her warmth, generosity, and the countless memories she created will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Beloved wife of 57 years to Paul Agnew; adored mother of Sandy (Eric) Gooch and Steven Agnew; proud grandma of Emma, Rachael, and Joshua; and sister of Patricia (Dieter) Mann. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen Wist; and brothers, Edward, Jr. and Donald.
The family will greet guests from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Edward Swanson and Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Rd., Madison Heights, Michigan. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 7 at the above location. Interment following at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
