I met Wing in 1965, played on a championship fast pitch softball team with him in 1966. Wing was our leadoff hitter, not because he could hit, but because he could run. Bunting his way on time and time again, he probably led the league in runs scored. I also played against him in our neighborhood tackle football games, where his speed and strength were legendary. I once intercepted a pass against his team and had to outrun him to the end zone 80 yards away. As I scampered down the sideline, I saw him coming after me out of the corner of my eye; a mad rushing bull looking to fling this matador into the air. Fear was a great motivator, and I ran faster than I had before, or since just barely making it for the TD.
In the early 70's, we often rode together to classes at Wayne State University; that is if we made it to the campus rather than skipping out to visit our girlfriends in Rochester.
I was so happy to be reunited with him for the last few years, he will live on in these, and many more fond memories.

Wing , me and several friends including Charles LeFurge, Paul Bennett, JimIrvine, Rick Prince, Ralph Emerson, Mark Winningham, Tom and Dave Thielen, Debbie and Jimmy Shields and Debby Prince Vassallo have had the pleasure in these last six or seven years of reuniting for an annual 're-onion' every summer. Most of us hadn't seen each other in over 35 years. Most of us met through school or Knox Presbyterian Church on the east side of Detroit. It was like we stepped right out of the 1960's and 1970's and continued where we left off. After these 're-onions' started I had the pleasure of Wing's company almost weekly.

Here's a couple of my fondest memories of Wing: In fast pitch softball (for Knox Church) Wing was not our best hitter but he was an extremely fast runner. So Wing would usually bunt and dare the other team to try and throw him out and that didn't happen very often. When we played neighborhood tackle football Wing was so strong and had such a muscular body that no one wanted to tackle him, doing so put one in danger of being severely injured.

Wing was a great friend and would do anything to help others - especially his family and friends. Wing will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Wing!

I'm sure your other east side friends feel the same as me. They all send their condolences.
