Obituary of Adele Smith Crews
Adele Smith Crews, 94, of Madison Heights, Virginia passed into her heavenly home on Monday, August 2, 2021. Adele was the daughter of the late Morton and Margaret Smith of Brookneal and was the loving wife of the late Clayton H. Crews, Jr. for 55 years. In addition to a joyful reunion with her husband, she will join sisters Miriam Woody, Ruth Holt, and Phyllis Childress; brothers Otto, Leon, John, Lyle, and Marvin Smith; and a precious grandson Alex Crews. Adele left home as a teenager to work in a Lynchburg garment factory during WWII. She later spent many enjoyable years working at General Electric and upon retirement volunteered at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Adele was the most unselfish, brave and generous person you would ever want to meet. She dearly loved her family, friends, and church. Leaving to cherish beautiful memories of her are her daughter and caregiver Brenda and husband Eddie Carter; son Rick Crews and wife Beverly; granddaughters Alena Crews and Lindsay Diamond (Keith); and great grandchildren Carter and Grayson Diamond. She is also survived by a loving brother Larry Smith. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Amelon United Methodist Church with Pastor David Edinger officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 12 noon. Interment will be private. Those who are not vaccinated are encouraged to be masked and social distance. The family would like to thank Centra Hospice and many caregivers that were so kind to “mama” over the last few months. If you wish to honor her memory please consider a contribution to Amelon United Methodist Church or Monelison Rescue Squad.
