

Born in Lynchburg, June 19, 1991, he was the son of David L. Vassar and Laura Ellington Vassar of Amherst.
In addition to his parents, Drew is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Vassar of Amherst; his maternal grandparents, Dick and Betsy Ellington of Amherst; his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Vassar of Madison Heights; Aunts, Sara Ellington Behnke and her husband David of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Ellington Brugh and her husband Mason of Charlottesville and Dianne Vassar of Madison Heights; great Aunts, Shirley Caskie, Audrey Pritchett and Jackie Fitzgerald, all of Lynchburg and many cousins he loved and who loved him dearly and will miss him more than words can express.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Buddy Vassar.
Drew was a 2009 graduate of Amherst County High School. He was a truck driver for his family’s business, Ellington Wood Products, doing what he always wanted to do. He loved animals, especially dogs and enjoyed being outdoors and spent as much time as he could in the woods hunting or out on the water in his boat fishing. He was an active member of the church he loved, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Drew was the light of his family and filled every room he entered with warmth and joy. The constant smile on his face was contagious. He never met a stranger and was a beacon of love and happiness.
A service celebrating Drew’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the church.
The family request memorial contributions be made in Drew’s memory to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church building fund, 650 Thrashers Creek Rd, Amherst, VA 24521.
