

Barbara Stilwell Ramsey, 81, of Madison Heights passed away peacefully, Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Summit with all of her family by her side. She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-eight years, Joseph E. Ramsey, Jr.
Born in Amherst County, July 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Elmo Harris Stilwell and Thelma Layne Stilwell and was also preceded in death by three sisters, Sister Mary DeMontford (Joyce), Doris S. Staton and Sandra S. Boatright and four brothers, Vincent “Benny” Stilwell, Cecil Stilwell, Stephen “Jimmy” Stilwell, and Pete Stilwell (who died in infancy). She was a 1953 graduate of Holy Cross Catholic School and was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Jude Circle of the Ladies of Charity and organized many Marian pilgrimages for church members.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six loving children, Joseph E. Ramsey, III and his wife Caryl, Caryn R. Herman and her husband Alan, Michael A. Ramsey, Susan R. Swan and her husband Russ, Mary R. Wade and Theresa D. Ramsey and her fiancé Bob Jones; one sister, Frances Stilwell Jennings and her husband Pete and nine adoring grandchildren, Heather Ramsey, Savannah Ramsey, Holden Ramsey, Christopher Herman and his wife Ally, Jeremy Herman, Kyle Swan, Ashley Swan, Brian Wade and Brandon Wade and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, trips to the lake and beach, playing cards, and lunch outings.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and will host a reception immediately following the service. Private burial will be conducted at Virginia Memorial Park.
