Betty Jean Mertz

Born July 27, 1959 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Marie Gowen Goodman Beale and was also preceded in death by her step-father, Marcus M. Beale and a step-sister, Marcia B. Williams. Betty Jean was a former employee of the Drug Fair and Kmart in Madison Heights and was a member of the Blue Ridge Chapter of Multiple Sclerosis, where she was active in the M.S. Fund Drives. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, Betty Jean is survived by her daughter, Ruth Marie Mertz of Madison Heights; five sisters, Linda G. Carden and husband Casey of Lynchburg, Barbara G. Moore and husband Steven, Geraldine G. Tyree and husband Donnie, and Carolyn G. Garrett and husband, Alvin, all of Madison Heights, and Patricia G. Wood and husband Alan “Chip” of Lynchburg; one brother, Ray T. Goodman, Sr. and wife Sherry of Concord and; a step-brother, Marcus M. Beale, II and wife Cathy of Madison Heights.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2012 at Northminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Porter officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church, Friday, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and other times at the residence.
