Brenda Faye Yancey

Brenda Faye Winn Yancey, 67, of Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Harold Dean Yancey. Brenda and Harold would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in June.
Born April 13, 1946 in Dry Fork, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ryland Oakes Sr. and the late Mildred L. Oakes. Brenda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Brenda is survived by four children, the Rev. Walter Yancey and wife Wendy of Danville, Kellie D. Yancey of Madison Heights and Barry T. Yancey and wife Stefanie, also of Madison Heights and Crystal D. Ward and husband Dwayne of Covington; two sisters, Joan Yeatts of Blairs, Vickey Miller of Dry Fork; three brothers, Ryland Oakes, Jr. of Staunton, Darrell Oakes of Dry Fork, and Harold Oakes of Chatham; a special aunt, Ruby C. Cundiff of Dry Fork; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor J.D. Surbaugh, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
