

Born in Lynchburg, September 25, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Warren Harding Shafer and Virginia Parnell Shafer. She was a retired special education teacher with the Amherst County Schools. Throughout her career, her passion was making a difference in the lives of children with special needs. She was devoted to and truly loved each and every child she taught.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Elizabeth Beverly.
She is survived by one daughter, Sarah M. Elliott and her husband James of Appomattox; one son, Stephen W. McGann of Madison Heights; one brother, Paul H. Shafer of Evington; two grandchildren, Kayla Elliott and Connor Elliott; a brother in law, David Beverly and nephew, Roger Beverly both of Shipman and a life long friend, Peggy M. Powell of Forest.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Ron Moore officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8:30 p.m.
