

Charlie “Haywood” Humphreys, 60, of Amherst, entered into eternal rest, March 7, 2013 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his loving family after a long, vigilant, brave, and courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 26, 1952 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Charlie Thomas and Gertie Wynell Tomlin Humphreys and was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Edward Humphreys and sisters, Maxine Ware, Peggy Jean Whitaker and Doris Marie Humphreys.
Haywood was a very talented masonry worker for more than thirty-five years.
Left to cherish his memory is his love of more than forty years and the mother of his children, Brenda L. Branham of Monroe; sons, Dwayne H. Branham and Travis S. Branham and fiancée Tracy Mawyer of Monroe; daughter, Cheryl B. Stinnett and husband Eddie of Madison Heights; two grandchildren, Kyndal R. “Nay Nay” Branham and Jayden C. “Pee Wee” Stinnett; brothers, Harry E. Humphreys of Amherst and Lawrence W. Humphreys of Madison Heights; sisters, Blanche Ann Humphreys of Madison Heights and Mary H. Henson of Monroe and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank a special niece, Becky Staton for all of the love, care, and compassion she has shown Haywood and his family throughout this difficult time. Thanks also to the many Doctors, Nurses, Centra Health Hospice, Becky Cox, RN, and Dr. Cecelia McCallum, who cared for Haywood.
Haywood was a very special man, who always put everyone before himself, never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Dr. Michael Fitzgerald and John Sines, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the funeral home and other times at his daughter’s residence.
