

Buddy was born on July 25, 1926 in Madison Heights, VA, the son of the late Blanche Gilliam Gowen and Lewis Jefferson Gowen, Sr.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. C.W. Gowen, Jr and his dear wife, Dr. Marilyn Alley Gowen of Norfolk, two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Gowen of Philadelphia, PA, and Rebecca Burnley Gowen of Norfolk; two lovely nieces, Donnie Clark Devens and her husband, William G. Devens of Chesapeake, VA, and Ann Johnson Davis, and her husband, Philip Davis of Madison Heights; one great nephew, Corry Scott Davis, and his wife, Michelle of Powhatan, VA, and their two children, Reagan and Mason Cole.
Buddy was an employee of Intermet Corporation, formally Lynchburg Foundry, for 40 years as a Metal Patternmaker. In addition, he was a member of the Woodman of the World Insurance Corporation for 38 years. He loved golf and football. He also enjoyed traveling and enjoyed all the trips he took with family and friends, both at home and abroad. He was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church in Lynchburg for over 50 years where he was a Lifetime Deacon. Most recently, he was a member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. Buddy served a tour of duty with the US Army and was stationed in Japan during WWII. Buddy was a member of the American Legion, Unit 141.
Buddy is preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Jefferson Gowen, Jr. and three sisters: Frances G. Harrison (Stuart), Erma G. Clark (Earl), and Margaret G. Johnson (Joseph).
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 7 to 8:30 pm at Whitten’s Monelison Chapel . A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA.
