David Allen McBride, 74, of Madison Heights, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 21, 1949, to the late Eugene Theodore McBride and Phyllis Gleason Prosser.
David proudly served his country in the US Navy for a remarkable 21-year career, which included serving in Vietnam. Following his military service, he dedicated several years to the Chrysler Corporation and later worked for Liberty University for nine years. In his leisure time, David found immense joy in the culinary arts, especially crafting his renowned Mexican Lasagna and baking hardy homemade bread. His quick wit and terrific sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him. He had a unique passion for meeting new people and fostering connections, often engaging as a ride-share driver. But above all, David's greatest love and devotion were reserved for his family—his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in his heart. David's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a dedicated member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Jean McBride; four sons, Paul Nowosad (Ami) of Cheboygan, MI, Jonathan McBride (Kelly) of Gainesville, Michael McBride (Ekaterina) of Dumfries and Brian McBride (Madeline) of Lynchburg; step-daughter, Angela Schweikart (Steven) and step-son, Glen Troyer (Sandra) all of Lynchburg; two brothers, Raymond Prosser (Peggy) of Westland, Michigan and James Prosser of St. Simons Island, GA; 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A service celebrating his Life and Faith will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Rick Rasberry officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 16.
A graveside service will be conducted at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
