There is a verse of scripture that describes Donald's life at this time. "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Born February 22, 1934, in Amherst County, he was a son of the late John Bibb Ewers and Edna Smith Ewers. Donald retired from B&W after 37 years of service and was a life long member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Ewers and J.P. Ewers; and four sister, Myrtle Bryant, Edna Earle Bomar, Eleanor Woodson, and Marion Ewers.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by a devoted son, Kevin Ewers and wife Anne, of Madison Heights. Kevin and his dad shared a love of baseball, and hunting, for which he will have many fond memories.
For the past twelve years Donald's life has been made much happier by the love of his two grandchildren, Emily and Kylie Ewers. They were known as "Poppies' Girls", and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them.
Donald is also survived by two sisters, Marie Torrence, and Doris Lee, both of Madison Heights.
The family will receive friends tonight, April 17, 2010, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel, and at other times at the residence.
A celebration of Donald's life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, by the Rev. James Freeman, and Brian Donohue. Interment will follow in Meade Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Sandy Bottom Christian Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 159, Madison Heights, VA 24572.
