She was born on February 17, 1942 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Jacob Lewis Loving, Jr. and Dorothy Campbell Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, James Frederick Diuguid and foster child, Sonia Garcia.
Dottie is survived by one son, Bradford Loving Diuguid and wife Tracy; grandchildren, BrennaLynne Michelle Diuguid, Martin Loving Diuguid, Matthew Edward Diuguid, Oakland James Diuguid, Trey Corpora; step grandchildren, Makayla Klein, Adrianna O’Neil and husband Brandon, Logan Ayers, and Chloe Ayers; She is also survived by one brother, Roderick Lewis Loving and wife Alice; one sister, Judy Loving Dudley and husband Linnie; a niece, Elizabeth Loving Consolla and husband Mark and three nephews, Joseph Mark Consolla, Jacob Roderick Consolla, and Jeffrey Campbell Consolla.
Dottie graduated from Amherst County High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Chemistry from Lynchburg College in 1964 and a Master’s Degree from Lynchburg College in Elementary Education in 1970. Dottie was a teacher at Amelon Elementary School in Amherst County for more than 30 years. She touched the lives of many children, during her career.
Dottie grew up in Madison Heights Methodist Church and after her marriage to Jimmy, joined Court Street United Methodist Church. Dottie was humble, meek, and mild. She helped care for her mother, when her mother was ill and cared for Jimmy, after his stroke. She was always there, for her family and others.
In her early years, Dottie enjoyed attending Jimmy’s Dixie Youth Baseball games. She also enjoyed reading non-fiction books, finding that “special treasure” at yard sales on Saturday mornings, watching her hummingbirds on her bird feeders, taking care of her beautiful flowers and two very special trips to Scotland and England, with family members. She loved her canine companions, especially “Bailey”, her Cairn Terrier. Most importantly, Dottie loved her family and close longtime friend, Charmaine Bedlow.
Dottie was richly blessed, as was her family, by Charmaine Bedlow, an “Angel” sent down to us from somewhere up above. As Alabama sang in, “Angels Among Us”, Charmaine was definitely an angel and she certainly “guided us with the light of love”. She helped brighten Dottie’s days with love, care, compassion and devotion. We are grateful for the love and care Charmaine showed to Dottie and our entire family during many, many years. .
A graveside service will be held, Friday, February 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery with The Rev. William Burleigh officiating. A reception will follow at Dottie’s home.
