Clarence Edward “Eddie” Smoot, III, 43, of Madison Heights went to be with our Lord, Saturday, November 3, 2018.

Eddie was born in Lynchburg, March 14, 1975. He was a self-taught painter, artist, and was an endearing man with a heart of gold. He would do anything for anyone in need. Eddie always thought of others more than his own needs and had a great smile that could light up a room, plus a laugh that would bring the house to their feet. He was a loving son, brother, father and uncle.

He is survived by his parents, Susan Short of Madison Heights and Clarence E. “Chip” Smoot, Jr. of Lynchburg; brother, Carlton “Peanut” Stratton; sister, Mary Beth Cash and husband Randy all of Lynchburg; his daughter Brittanie Smoot; nieces, Catherine and husband Alex and Dixie Stratton; nephews, Junior Stratton, Chance Cowart and Will Cash; great nephew Isaac and several aunts, including one special aunt, Barbara Lambert, uncle, cousins and friends.

A service celebrating Eddie's life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. From the time you were young you have always wanted to make
people laugh. As you grew up we
had some rough patches but we got through them.
As a son I couldn’t have picked a
better one. As a brother you were great and I know that heaven is a brighter place.
I love you mom

I met Eddie many years ago thru Peanut. It was an instant connection and friendship like we had known each other all our lives. His laugh was amazing! One night as we stood outside of Waffle House he began to yell YOU CAN DO IT at everyone that came out while
We waited in line ... nearly got us kicked out! Hahaha We had a lot of good times and talks together and he always made sure I knew he loved me before we hung up. Eddie was such a loving caring sweet person! Always willing to put others first. A year ago this month I broke my foot walking off the dance floor with him at Phase 2 ...He caught me and took care of me, hugged me and kissed my forehead and told me everything was gonna be okay. I wish I could’ve done the same for him... Eddie I love you! Thank you for being such a sweet friend and for loving me so much!

Many don't remember but "Little" Eddie was my first boyfriend when I was 10 years old. We would meet at the skating ring. Sadly rumors broke us up. We stayed good friends from that moment on though.
He was a unique man who didn't care about anyone accepting him, he was himself and nothing changed that. He would always brighten a room up when he came in and always tried to give reason when people were upset. He stood by me as I moved to North Carolina and we spoke rarely as our paths grew further and further apart. The last time I saw him he was working on a drawing like he always did. I know he is in a better place. He will be missed greatly by me and my daughters (who met him when they were little). Thoughts go out to the family in their time of mourning. The world will be a little darker without his light around.

We met and became instant friends...why not, he laughed at everything I said..right after we met Halloween came ..for some reason he painted his shoes pink...I asked him why and he said it was for women with breast cancer... it's a memory I'll never forget along with all the laughs we shared and the good times...I guess it's true..ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG

Thank you Eddie for being such an outstanding person in life. You will be greatly missed by so many. The last time I saw you, you gave me one 🌹 red rose at the weenie stand on Allegheny Avenue. It brightened my day more than you knew. I’ll see ya when I get there. My prayers and sympathy go out to all of his family and loved ones. He was a great guy!!
