

Born on May 20, 1930 in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late Willie Andrew Hughes and Maude Cyrus Hughes. Emmett retired from Smiley Block Company after 50 years of service. He was a deacon at Northside Baptist Church and was a Korean War veteran. Emmett loved fishing and enjoyed hunting and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Danny Hughes; son-in-law, Larry Padgett; and 5 siblings.
In addition to his wife, Emmett is survived by his daughter, Charlene Padgett; son, Randy Hughes and wife Sharon; special granddaughters, Nikki Hughes and Miranda Luczka and husband Steve; grandson, Randy Hughes, Jr.; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Jacob Uthup and Pastor Kirk Farmer officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors presented by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10 am.
