

She was retired from Central Virginia Training Center after 25 years of service, and was an employee at the Virginia Cotton Mill, until its closing. She was a member of First Assembly of God.
Survivors include four sons, James Opry Chapman, of Lynchburg, John Henry Chapman, of Biloxi, MS, Richard Lee Chapman (Liz), of Lynchburg, and Charlie Michael Chapman (Brenda), of Spout Springs. Mom, or “Nanny, as we called her, had 10 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Ethel’s home has been with her loving daughter-in-law, Jean Chapman, for over 30 years, and up until her final days. Mom’s life was truly blessed by Melvin “Doc” Franklin, for his undeniable patience and care given through the years.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to Seven Hills Hospice for their exceptional attention they gave to Mom. The loving gentle care from Pam Walshaw, Brenda Little, Carrie Byers, and Nancy Shotwell, will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, by the Rev. Glynn A. Coleman. Interment will follow in Meade Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Daily Bread.
