
Frank Floyd Smith, 93, of Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born July 17, 1917 in Eolia, KY, he was the son of the late Litton Isom and Ollie Caudill Smith Belcher and was also preceded in death by a brother, James M. Smith and a sister, Martha S. Ashwell.
Mr. Smith was a retired self-employed Building Contractor of homes and commercial buildings, who was responsible for many of the homes of the Hyland Heights Development. He also enjoyed furniture restoration. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a Staff Sergeant and 155 Gun Commander with the 246th Coast Artillery.
Mr. Smith was an avid antique car enthusiast and a former member of the Lynchburg Antique Club. He particularly enjoyed restoring Packards, one of which went to a German Car Museum.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sisters, Mae S. Waters of Madison Heights and Billie B. Brumfield of Forest; three nephews, Danny Ashwell, Michael Smith, and Chris Brumfield and one niece, Robin Moreland.
He is also survived by two very special lifelong friends, Carolyn O. Carter and Cary Ogden and his special “grandson”, Chris Vernon.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Gary Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the funeral home.
