Born on February 24, 1943 in Lynchburg, he was the son of James Julian Wingfield and Zelia Jones Wingfield. Fred retired from Burlington Transportation and was an active member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church for 50+ years and enjoyed serving as a Deacon. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time with his friends on the course. He also had a deep love of football especially UVA college ball. Wahoowa! He loved to quiz you on trivia questions and knew almost any trivia questions asked of him. Fred never met a stranger and treated everyone he knew as if they were his best friend. He loved the word “Terrific” and that is certainly a good word to describe him.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Geri Wilson and husband Troy of Kannapolis, NC; son, Keith Wingfield and wife Sena of Midlothian, VA; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Daniel, Jacob, Savannah, Summer, Corey, and Taylor Grace; 3 great-grandchildren, Layla, Jackson and Kohan; brother Ray Wingfield, and brother-in-law, Eddie Garnett as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years Judith Garnett Wingfield, his brother Dick Wingfield and 2 sisters; Betty Witt and Joyce Bingham.
