
Born March 29, 1933 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Mack Manaway and Nettie Coffey Mays and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Avery, Ray, and Herman Mays, Sr. Mr. Mays was retired from Lynchburg Foundry, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ruth Mayo and husband Alfred of Stafford and Carol Rhodes and husband John of Woodstock; four sisters, Eunice Stevens of Clifford, Eva Gowens and Rachel Campbell and husband Jr., both of Amherst, and Mary Jane Campbell and husband, Norman of Madison Heights; three brothers, Clyde Mays and wife, Lucille of Culpeper, Mack Mays and wife Janie and Marshall Mays, both of Amherst; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. George S. Riggins, III officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the funeral home.
