Gertrude Chumbley Rucker

She was born on January 8, 1930 in Madison Heights, daughter of the late Fitzhugh Lee Chumbley, Sr. and Lovie Dollinger Chumbley.

In addition to her adoring husband “Red”, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lovie C. Coleman and brother, Fitzhugh Lee Chumbley, Jr.

She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth C. Boynuk and Mary Preston C. Thaxton; a sister in law, Loriene F. Chumbley; five special nieces, Lovie Peters, Pattie Day and husband George, Kanzada Phillips and husband Jimmy, Karen Jardine, Caressa Talley and husband Earl; great nephews and great nieces, Jay Peters, Yvette Humphrey, Monica Dalton, Mindy Takematsu, Mallory Bidese, Alex Jardine, Emily Johnson, Josh Jardine, Morganne Talley and Prestina Talley. She is also survived by great-great nephews, Collin Humphrey, Jacob Dalton, Brandt Takematsu, and Baby Johnson. Special friends often become family and Linda Mays Childress and husband Warren and their son William were that kind of loving friends to Trudy.

The family offers a special thanks to Kim Pugh, who lovingly cared for Trudy, in her last few months.

Trudy attended Madison Heights Christian Church her entire life, but her wonderment for the world led her to many beautiful countries. We can assume that while she could not travel in her last years, she rerode the highways and byways of America and Canada, in her memories of holding Uncle Red’s belt loops, feeling the wind in her face, and experiencing life by motorcycle. Trudy was creative and talented, and she leaves us rich in memories.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Rev. George Harris and Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the service.
