Gloria Adams Peters, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 16, 1946, in Roanoke, Virginia, Gloria lived a life full of love and joy.
Gloria graduated from William Fleming High School in 1964 and pursued her passion for nursing, earning her degree from Virginia Baptist School of Nursing in 1967. She dedicated 43 years as a registered nurse at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg, Virginia, where her compassion and expertise touched countless lives. Gloria’s calling as a nurse was rivaled only by her devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
A 50-year member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, Gloria’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found joy in travel, particularly to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, her favorite destination, where she and her husband of 57 years, Carson Peters, and her family, created countless cherished memories. Gloria also treasured long conversations with her sister Diane, her first and lifelong best friend. She was also an avid reader and supporter of her family’s hobbies and interests.
Gloria’s legacy of love and kindness lives on in her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Carson Peters; her sons, David Peters and his wife Catherine, and Gregory Peters and his wife Christina; her daughter, Julie McAndrews and her husband Paul; and her eight beloved grandchildren, Conner, Maura, Marron, Brendan (Adriana), Carson, Nathanael, Emma, and Caeth. She is also survived by her sisters, Diane McCormick and Debbie Adams; her brother, Gary Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Dorothy Adams.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Virginia. Funeral services will follow on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Derik Hamby. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gloria’s honor be made to Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, 4246 South Amherst Highway, Madison Heights, Virginia, 24572. Following the service on Friday, friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of Gloria’s life at the home of David and Catherine Peters, 259 Fox Briar Lane, Madison Heights, Virginia.
