

Born September 1, 1935 in Rockbridge County,, she was the daughter of the late Ralph C. and Virginia Worley Liggett. Mrs. Layne retired in September 2000 after forty-seven years of public work. She was an active member of Amelon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, served as a lay pastor, and has left behind a very supportive church family.
Mrs. Layne is survived by three sisters, Peggy A. Liggett of Glasgow, Joyce L. Tollinger (Thomas) of Centennial, CO, and Janie L. Baer (Mitch) of Fairfax; four nephews, Alan T. Tollinger of Singapore, Andy C. Tollinger of Casselberry, FL, David S. Baer of Springfield, and Matthew L. Baer of New York City, NY; two nieces, Adele T. Harbick of Castle Rock, CO, and Allyson T. Gehring of Littleton, CO and ten great nieces.
Other survivors include a VERY SPECIAL nephew by marriage, Mark E. Layne (Leigh) and their family of Forest and his mother, Shirley Layne of Madison Heights and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Layne, also of Madison Heights and his son, Michael Layne of Richmond.
In addition to those loved ones, Grace leaves behind an extraordinary friend, Barbara Duff of Madison Heights. Grace’s sisters would like to thank Barbara for her undying thoughtfulness, support, and caring over so many years.
The family would also like to thank Runk & Pratt and Seven Hills Hospice for their wonderful care.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Amelon U.M. Church with the Rev. Wayne Meredith and Pastor Lawrence Erbin officiating. Interment will follow at Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow at 2:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
