Born on August 9, 1941, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Lovie H. Burch and Mary Ann Humphries. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Staples Burch; two brothers, Carl and Earl Burch; and a sister, Ethel Wright.
Hansford graduated from Amherst County High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1963-1965. He worked for over 29 years at Amherst County Water Authority and retired in 2006.
He is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Burch-Napier (Kristie) and Monica Martin (John); grandchildren, William Burch (Tena), Brittany McCartney, Anna Marie McCartney, John L. Martin Jr., Mary Grace Martin, and Wyatt Martin; great grandchildren, Emma, Hayden, Ethen, Nicholas, Cameron; and brother, Wesley Burch.
A graveside service celebrating his life will be conducted on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Amherst Cemetery.
