

Born August 6, 1943 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Humphreys and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Renee Wheeler and two brothers, Landon Humphreys and Massie Humphreys. Hazel was a faithful member of Elon Baptist Church until her illness. She retired from Elon Family Salon in 1997. Cooking and baking were great passions in her life. She enjoyed teaching her children and grandchildren how to make home cooked meals, especially biscuits. No matter the occasion, she was well known for preparing meals for her Family and friends in her little kitchen on Camden Drive.
She is survived by one daughter, Regina Robertson and husband Mark; one step-son, Wayne Campbell (Pam), one step-daughter; Debbie Ware ( Mike); five grandsons, Joey Campbell, Michael Ware Jr., Eric Campbell, Brian Campbell and Mark Anthony Robertson (Jessica); three granddaughters, Amber Hansen (Nick), Jessica Burks (Danny), Megan Wheeler (fiancé Landon); two step-grandsons, Shane Weakley (Jessica) and Brad Weakley; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Cecil Ware and Margaret Ewers and two brothers, Ezra Humphreys and James Humphreys.
A celebration of Hazel's life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Elon Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Tyree and the Rev. Barry Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the Elon Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church, prior to the service, from 1:30-3:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Fairmont Crossing (especially Megan Wheeler) and Centra Hospice for showing compassion and love to their “Nanny” during her illness.
