

Born November 13, 1933, in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Charles Dewey Mays and Elizabeth Lawhorne Mays. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Gail Bowling; and a brother, Freddy Dawson Mays. She attended Thomas Terrace Baptist Church.
Survivors include six children, Patricia DeLuca and husband Louie, of Concord, Kenneth Bowling and wife Angela, of Amherst, Diane Koda and husband John, of Amherst, Janet Wood and husband Tim, Karen Couch and husband Danny, both of Rustburg, and Jesse Bowling III and wife Rhonda, of Amherst; a brother, Charles Mays and wife Joyce, of Madison Heights; 16 grandchildren, Kim Wood, Mark Bowling, Crystal Bowling, John Koda Jr., Christopher Koda, Dawn Mays, Nathan Bowling, Jacob Bowling, Danny Couch Jr., Brian Couch, Brandon Couch, Nicole Deel, Brittaney Deel, Morgan Deel, and Roger Deel, and 19 great-grandchildren., other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight, Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4, 2011, at the funeral home, by the Rev. Mark Grooms. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery.
