Hilda S. Viar

She was born in Lynchburg July 13, 1917, the daughter of Edgar A. and Sallie Ore Shelton. She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School. She was married to Thomas E. Viar in 1941 and had resided in Amherst County for much of her life prior to moving to The Summit.

Mrs. Viar was a Charter Member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church where she was active in church functions. She was a member of the Gamma Chapter of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Evergreen Garden Club.

Mrs. Viar was predeceased by her husband of 67 years and is survived by two sons, Thomas M. (Tim) and wife Aline of Richmond and Kenneth E. and fiancé Cathy Dalton of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Shelley Johnston of Baton Rouge, LA, Matt Viar of Richmond, Kandise Powell of Lynchburg, Kendall Viar of Charlottesville; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Fred and wife Rena of Maryland.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Derick Hamby and Rev. Kirk Farmer. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

A special thanks to the administration and staff of The Summit for the wonderful care provided over the past several years.

The family will receive friends at Whitten Monelison Chapel today, Tuesday August 9, 2011 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
