Born October 25, 1956, in Farmville, Virginia, he was the son of the late Hubert Dillard Hamlett, Sr. and Peggy Moore Hamlett. He moved to Madison Heights as a child and attended Amherst County schools, graduating in 1975.
Following high school, Dillard relocated to Richmond, Virginia, where he was employed by Westvaco until the plant closed. He later returned to Amherst County and worked for Glad Manufacturing until his health declined, retiring in December 2017.
Dillard was a devoted sports fan, especially of the University of Virginia Cavaliers, and was a die-hard supporter of the L.A. Rams. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and camping, and in his earlier years was an avid runner and bicyclist. He was a member of Amelon United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Hamlett and her children, Tracy Hylton (Danny) and their children, Kayla, Kensley, and Kymber Hylton, all of Drakes Branch; Daniel Coleman (Megan) and their children, Caiden, Liam, and Brooklyn Coleman, all of Evington and his sister, Debbie Foster (Bob) of Forest; his niece, Brandy Morse (Charles) and their children, Adam and Lucas Morse of Christiansburg.
