Jack Gilpin, age 79, of Amherst, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at his residence.
Born on January 10, 1944 in Garrison, WV, he was the son of the late Rev. Leslie M. Gilpin and Rev. Alberta R. Gilpin.
Prior to retirement, he owned an automotive repair shop and loved all things involving cars and trucks. He enjoyed writing poetry and loved the Lord. He believed that family meant more than just blood relatives and he was known as "Papa Jack" to so many over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeanita Gilpin; his children, Brian Perdue (Sharon), Linda Sellers (Philip), Jessie "Jay" Greene, Jr., Melanie Sellick, and Ron Short; his siblings, Leslie "Harold" Gilpin, Larnelle "Kim" C. Gilpin (Karen), Janna Hager (Tom), Alberta "Sue" Epperly, Georgina Cooper (Allen); grandchildren, Matthew Greene, Cody Perdue, Stephen Greene, Kristen Greene, Connor Davis, Elaina Sellers, Wyatt Sellers, Hannah Perdue; great-grandchildren, Riley, Hayden and Cameron Perdue, Gracie Greene, Leora and Leila Ragland, Teagan Klaverweiden and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
