Born in Monroe, May 10, 1935, he was the son of the late Fred Venable Martin and Essie Mays Martin. He retired from the Kroger Co. as produce manager after 41 years of service. He was an Army National Guard veteran and was a member of Peoples Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sister, Emma M. Irby of Madison Heights; his brother Fred Martin, Jr. of Lynchburg one nephew, Stephen W. Irby and two nieces, Denise Wingfield and Karen Martin.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Jesse Dunnaway officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
