James "Bud" Mansfield Huff

James “Bud” Mansfield Huff, 95, of Madison Heights passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at Greenfield of Strasburg. He was the husband of Mildred Feury Huff. Born December 4, 1922, in Sinks Grove, WV, he was the son of the late James Albert Huff and the late Elizabeth Boyd Huff Holcomb. Bud enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 12, 1940, and was stationed at the Schoffield Barracks in Hawaii and was there during Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He also served on Christmas Island and New Guinea before his honorable discharge as a Tec 5 demolition specialist on June 29, 1945. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with two bronze service stars. He married the love of his life, Mildred Feury on May 30, 1949. They spent several years moving around Indiana and Ohio white Bud worked construction for the C&O Railroad. They finally settled in Madison Heights in the fifties. Bud retired from the railroad as a Signal Maintainer in 1984. He was a member of Clinton #73 AF & AM of Amherst and was an active Mason for over 50 years. He held several positions including Worshipful Master and was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. His interests included antique cars, welding and travelling. He was a past member of Lynchburg Antique Car Club and built his own wood stove. He travelled over much of the U.S. and internationally to England, Germany, Japan and Canada. He especially enjoyed his trip to Hawaii with his wife in 1991 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. Lastly, he was an avid gardener growing all sorts of vegetables he shared with family and friends. Bud is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Feury Huff; two nephews, Zandy D. DePriest (Susan) and Randy D. DePriest (Kathy); and a niece, Shanda Carter (David). A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Robert Phillips, II officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2018, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
