Born on August 6, 1956, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Wallace and Dorothy Tomlin.
James was a gentle soul that would do anything for anyone and would give someone the shirt off his back. He loved movies, loved traveling and going to the beach, and he loved going out to eat.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 23 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Tomlin; brother, John Tomlin (Melanie); brother-in-law, Emmett Turner (Sandra); nephew, Justin Turner; niece, Ann Turner; cousins, Ruth and Henry Hendricks and Tom and G.W. Phelps.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 2215 Park Avenue, Lynchburg VA 24501. Interment will follow the service at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the Salvation Army.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army of Lynchburg, 2215 Park Avenue, Lynchburg VA 24501.
