
Jean Nissen Moser, 88, of Madison Heights, passed away, Monday, April 14, 2014, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of 66 years to Luther Oliver Moser. Born July 2, 1925, in Winston-Salem, NC, she was the daughter of the late Koyt Ocosto Nissen and the late Evelyn Baum Nissen.
Jean was a retired school teacher for Lynchburg City Schools and a member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she taught the teens for 25 years. She was a graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL in 1946. She also taught school in Rural Hall, NC and Campbell County, VA before teaching in the Lynchburg City school system. Altogether, she served as a teacher for 36 years.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by two children, Lucy O. Moser and Mark C. Moser.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by one son, Gil N. Moser (Sheila) of Farmington, NM; one brother, Sam Nissen (Ann) of Columbia, MD; one sister, Clarice N. Raley of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Sydney Moser of Hilton Head, SC, Jeffrey Moser of San Diego, CA and Andrew Moser of Durango, CO; one brother-in-law, Charles O. Moser (Helen) of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted, 10 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Presbyterian Cemetery with Dr. Clay Smith officiating.
There will be no visitation hours at the funeral home.
