Jere Lynn Scott, age 67, of Elon, passed away on June 1, 2021, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lynchburg on February 2, 1954, daughter of the late Charles S. Scott, Sr. “Bill” and Joseline Daniel Scott “Jo”. She grew up in Brookneal, was a member of Falling River Baptist Church and a retired nurse of Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority.

Jere is survived by her six sons: Charles J. Gehman “Chuck” – Lynchburg, Micah J. Gehman (Lisa) – Yelm, Washington, Byron C. Gehman (Shelley) – Round Rock, Texas, Vincent S. Keller (Jenny) – Gladys, Dustin T. Keller (Jessie) – Brookneal, and N. Cory Keller – Fort Myers, Florida. Also, a sister, JoAnn Winn (William) – Madison Heights, a brother, David G. Scott (Mary Helen) – Toano, 17 grandchildren, two nephews, one niece, special friends both near and far, and her fur babies, Willie, Reba and Gaby. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles S. Scott, Jr. and Patricia S. Johnson.

Jere influenced so many people in her life. Her family, friends and co-workers went to her with their problems. She had a knack for listening and giving advice. She found her true calling in nursing, and was respected by everyone she encountered. She also had a zest for life and loved to be active, whether hiking, gardening or exercising. She was a devoted mother to her six sons, cool grandmother, beloved relative, and loyal friend to many. Jere was one-of-a-kind, and a very special person.

A Celebration of Jere’s Life service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Lawhorne officiating. Per Jere’s request, please dress casual.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to your favorite charity.

There are so many words and yet I have so few words. My friend, when the sun rose that morning, and your beautiful soul rose with it, my world changed. My dear friend, I will think of you every single day and I will miss you every single day . Love you, Girlfriend, Faye

To JoAnn, David, Chuck, Micah, Byron, Vince, Dustin and Cory. Jere so loved all of you, unconditionally. Guys, she was so proud of y’all , of all your accomplishments. And her grandkids! Oh my gosh, they are all the handsomest, prettiest, smartest, sweetest and most incomparable grandchildren ever! She loved you all so much. I wish she could have been here to see what they would become. The world is a sadder place without her, but Heaven, well it’s a lot brighter with her. And JoAnn, y’all couldn’t have loved each other any more. My thoughts are with you all. Faye

I am blessed to have wonderful teenage memories of my friendship with Jere. We laughed often over silly stuff, had lots of sleep overs and always loved listening to music. Life happened and we lost contact for decades but we recently reconnected over the last few months. Thank you Joanne.
I will always remember her smile and laughter.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was so kind to me every time we met. It was fun to see the photo montage which included photos from the 1970s/80s when I married Cary Caton and first met her and the rest of the Brookneal clan.

It was so nice to reconnect with her on Facebook in recent years and be introduced to some grown up sons.

What a sweet woman.
