

Born on August 17, 1953 in Hampton, VA he was the son of the late Aubrey Lionel Martin and the late Nancy Ann Harrell Martin. He was employed for many years as an auto mechanic. He worked at various locations over the years. At Bowditch Ford in Newport News he was a lead mechanic for years. He was employed at various auto repair garages in Lynchburg over the years. He could troubleshoot any issue & there wasn't any mechanical job he couldn't handle. He took a lot of pride in all the work he did.
Jerry also had a love for drag racing. He bought and restored a 1985 Mustang coupe into his perfect dragster. Before he became ill, he could be found at the various racetracks on the weekends. He had two trophies , one for winning in Natural Bridge and Eastside Trophy Winner.
Anyone who knew Jerry knew he was a true audiophile. To Jerry, music was not only to heard but felt to truly be appreciated. Anyone that came to visit was taken to a concert. He had a love for high quality equipment that not only gave a precise music quality but an open sound stage as well.
Jerry was one of a kind. Husband, father, brother and friend.
In addition to his wife, Carol Martin, he is survived by a son, Jerry Lionel Martin, Jr. and wife Jasmine; step-daughter, Ashley Anderson and husband Johnathan; sisters, Janice Payne and husband Mike, Joyce Moaratty and husband Richard and Rebecca Martin; brother, John Martin and Aubrey Leon Martin and wife Debra; and numerous other family members and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Dr. David W. Cash officiating.
