John Nelson Meeks Jr.

Born May 10, 1942 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late John Nelson Meeks and Berdie Maddox Meeks.

Mr. Meeks was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after 29 years of service. He was a US Army veteran and was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jane Tomlin Meeks and one granddaughter, Frances Jane Meeks.

Mr. Meeks is survived by four children, Pamela Sue Meeks Bryan and husband Ronald of Madison Heights, Rachael Dawn Meeks Arthur and her husband Jimbo of Paint Bank, John Nelson Meeks, III and his girlfriend Andria Wills of Madison Heights and Richard Henry Meeks, Sr. and his wife Catherine of Madison Heights; six sisters, LaNealle McPherson, Priscilla Jones, Janie Wilsher, Brenda Lee Meeks, Sabrina M. Hargis and Naomie Gail Jung; three brothers, Van Wayne Meeks, Phillip Meeks and Michael Meeks; four grandchildren, Nikki Marie Bryan, Mikaela Amber Meeks, Ronald Andrew Bryan, Jr. and Richard Henry Meeks, Jr.

A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Derik Hamby officiating.

Interment with military honors by the Altavista American Legion Memorial Post 36 will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
