Johnny James Powell

Born on October 12, 1934, in Orlovista, Fla., he was the son of the late John Thomas James Hilliard Powell and the late Merle Grimes Powell. Johnny was the owner/ operator of Economy Telephone and was in the National Guard. He was a member of Lynchburg Church of God of Prophecy.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, M. A. Powell.

He is survived by his children, Michelle Maynard and husband, David, J. Michael Powell and wife, Sharon, and J. Philip Jones and wife, Wanda; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; brothers, Louis Powell and wife, Marynell and Marvin Powell and wife, Brenda; sister, Jewel Casey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the service starting at 3 p.m. Pastor Gary Vernon and Marvin Powell will be officiating. Interment will follow at Allwood Cemetery.
