Joe was born on June 18, 1952, in Lynchburg, to the late Thelma Stump Crouch and Robert “Sam” Crouch. Joe was the devoted husband of Teresa Campbell Crouch, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. He was a dedicated employee of J & B Distributing and Blue Ridge Beverage, Inc., in Lynchburg, for many years.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his six sons: Paul Crouch (Jackie) of Maiden, Virginia, Tony Crouch (Sarah) of Roanoke, Virginia, Chad Crouch (Heather) of Hanover, Virginia, Jonathon Campbell (Stacy) of Amherst, Virginia, Jeffrey Campbell (Terri) of Amherst, and Dustin Crouch of Amherst.
He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Jessica Dalton, Ryan Crouch, Justin Maitland (Leah), Lydia Crouch (Jonathon), Seth Crouch (Sadie), Jordin Crouch, Emmi Scaggs, Eli Scaggs, Levi Campbell, Ethan Campbell, Everett Campbell, Peyton Wright (Hayden), and Valen Crouch; and five great-grandchildren: Paisley and Parker Dalton, and Luna, Olive, and Etta Maitland.
Joe is further survived by his brothers, Danny Crouch of Madison Heights and William “Rocky” Crouch of Evington; his sister, Wanda Camden (Phil) of Madison Heights; his sisters-in-law, Becky Crouch of Barberton, Ohio, and Cheryl Crouch of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was a man of unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. A gentle giant with a fighting spirit, he faced life’s challenges with courage and determination, never losing his contagious smile. His battles with vascular disease, beginning in 2005, and cancer, diagnosed in 2012, were a testament to his remarkable strength, resilience, and perseverance.
Joe had a passion for coaching baseball and was blessed to help coach two Dixie Youth Baseball World Series teams. He also enjoyed jousting, a sport in which he competed for several years and proudly won the National Semi-Professional Jousting Tournament.
Joe found great joy in the outdoors on his beloved 40-acre farm. He loved rabbit hunting, not so much for the hunt itself, but simply for the joy of hearing the dogs run. He enjoyed fishing, lying in a pile of leaves with sunlight filtering through the trees, sitting on the porch, and spending quiet moments by the pond.
As walking became more difficult, Joe continued to enjoy the beauty of his farm by riding his golf cart or Gator, or driving his truck around the property, taking in all of God’s beautiful creations.
Whether facing life’s greatest battles or enjoying the simple blessings of a day on his farm, Joe’s faith, gentle spirit, fighting heart, and ever-present smile reflected the man he was. He found beauty in the world around him and treasured the blessings God placed before him.
